Product Review
Product Description
Millions of shoppers save money buying groceries in bulk — trays of boneless chicken breasts, pairs of flank steaks, and flats of ripe tomatoes. But savings can quickly become losses if those bulk quantities spoil in the refrigerator or lie forgotten — unlabeled and unrecognizable under layers of ice crystals — in the back of the freezer.

Kati Neville and Lindsay Tkacsik have built businesses teaching home cooks how to take advantage of bulk savings by shopping wisely; converting food purchases into delicious, healthful family dinners; and labeling and storing the meals for easy access on busy days. They share all their best recipes and organizational wisdom in Fix, Freeze, Feast, a cookbook every price-conscious shopper will love, and warehouse club members shouldn't be without. With their help, home cooks will have freezers stocked with easy-to-prepare entrées, ready to be defrosted and cooked for weeknight family dinners. Imagine the comfort of knowing a homecooked meal is always available.

Each recipe includes instructions for dividing, preparing, and storing the raw ingredients, and a second set of simple directions for thawing, cooking, and enjoying the food. Designed for the way people cook today, Fix, Freeze, Feast meals are lighter and fresher than traditional bulk-cooking recipes, with a focus on simple stews and stir-fries, quick grilled or broiled main courses, and popular ethnic meals such as Beef Fajitas and Cashew Chicken Stir-fry.

Add to the entrées ready-to-bake cookie doughs, warming soups and side dishes, fruit smoothies, and portable kids' snacks, and those warehouse club shopping trips begin to look more valuable than ever. This is a system that saves time, saves money, and saves families from the empty calories of takeout food. Make room in the freezer for next week's dinner!

Summary: College Must 2010-07-12
Comment: This book got me through my last two years of college. The Carribean Pork Tenderloin is AWESOME! Whenever I would be home on a break my mom and I would spend a day or two just prepping recipes from here for me to take back to school with me. It never failed that I would be running low on funds and food but I always had something delicious as a backup just waiting for me. The boys loved it too...there were a number of weekends that I went to my friend's house with something delicious and all of his roommates ended up deciding that I was their favorite person that night. There are so many great recipes in here that the only reason I have ever had to duplicate recipes is because it is one of my favorites!!

Comment: Wonderful book. All the recipies that I have tried so far are "excellent" My tip for you. I bought my 6lb. trays and made three different recipies from each one (we are only two) works perfectly. Wish that there were more fish dishes.Look forward to the next book from these talented girls.

Summary: Practical and Tasty Recipes 2010-05-16
Comment: Counting myself, I live in a household of two. We're both working adults, and it can be easy to fall into the habit of ordering pizza. I don't love cooking, but I don't like being broke from eating out, either.

I've tried several "freezer cooking" cookbooks, and been disappointed by all the bland dishes they offer. This is by far the best I've picked up on this subject. Most of the recipes make 5-6 meals for two people, which is perfect. Not so many that you get sick of them, and not so few that it seems a waste of time. The recipes are very simple and take only a few minutes to put together. Oh, and did I mention tasty? This is the second time I've made the "Pepper Jelly Pork Chops." We cook them on the barbecue and they turn out perfectly.

Summary: The Best Freezer Cookbook for People Who Enjoy Cooking 2010-04-25
Comment: I bought this book when I got my new chest freezer. I was in my second trimester and wanted to fill my freezer with easy make-ahead meals knowing that once the baby got here I would have little to no time. I also bought another freezer cookbook but looking through it I was disheartened by the amount of canned soups and processed ingredients, plus the crazy once-a-month schedule just made cooking seem like drudgery.

I was impressed that this book makes nearly everything from scratch. Also loved the print and cut instructions for the finished product, as well as the inventory sheet. FFF contains recipes for a variety of meats as well as vegetarian dishes, snacks, and desserts. Cooking methods include grilling, baking, slow cooker, stir fry to name a few. Although I knew I was taking a risk by making a lot of these meals before ever eating them, I only had one dud (Ginger Beef)

As a few reviewers have mentioned, if you don't like sweet meat recipes you will probably not like many of the marinade recipes. Also, a must is some degree of patience when cooking. If you don't thaw the entrees completely and cook them too high, you will most definitely get dry, overcooked meat.

Fifty meals later I am so glad I went with this cookbook - we've eaten through about 80% of our stash and I'm planning my next freezer cooking session!
